How long have you been a personal trainer and what is your pre-training background?

I have been active my entire life and got certified and began training in 2001.  Prior to training I received a bachelor of fine arts in Dance from the Marymount Manhattan College in 1998.

What certifications do you have?

I am certified through the NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and have been through EFTI (Equinox Fitness Training Institute).  I have held certifications through ECITS (East Coast Instructor Training School), ACE (American Council on Exercise) and NSCA (National Sports and Conditioning Association) in the past.  I am also certified for Pre and Post Natal exercise and am a senior instructor for KBC (KettleBell Concepts).

How long is a session?

The initial assessment is 45 minutes to an hour and a typical training session will last for an hour.  If you are looking for something different like a 45 minute kettlebell session, 30 minute stretch sessions, boot camp or bridal packages please contact us at stacy@stacyyoshioka.com and let us know how we can custom tailor a workout program for you.

How fast will I see results and how often should I see you?

Results will be based on your consistency and dedication to your fitness program both this and without your trainer.  We recommend that you train a minimum of 2 times per week over a 6 week period begin to see changes.  Want to see changes faster?  Training 3 times per week is the ideal program to follow to see changes.  With that program you will typically start seeing changes after 4 weeks.

I do not have access to a gym, what do I do?

No fancy gym equipment?  No problem.  I can come in to your home and assess the space you have and recommend a few small pieces that can be stored in a closet and give you a full workout without having to join a gym.  All we need to work out is enough room for you to lay on the floor and raise your hands over your head.

Not enough room in your apartment?  Contact us at stacy@stacyyoshioka.com with your spacial constraints and we can look for a space that works for you.

How far will you travel to see me?

L.I.V.E. is a NYC based personal training business and we are limited to public transportation and our unlimited MetroCards.  If you are accessible via the MTA NYC Transit we can come to you!

Can we work out outdoors?

Of course!  Parks are not only our escape from the city but a great place to work out!  If you live near one and would prefer to be outside we can easily accommodate your workout to use the park.

What is a typical workout like?

Workouts will be tailored to your specific needs and will vary for each client.  A typical workout for an individual looking to achieve general fitness goals will include a combination of strength training and cardiovascular training to keep the body balanced.

What kinds of goals can you help me with?

If you have a fitness goal I can help you with it!  From weight loss to weight gain, from rehabilitation to sports specific training to pre and post natal fitness, I can help you achieve whatever goals you set out for yourself.

I have some physical limitations, can I still work with a trainer?

Yes!  When you have physical limitations such as low back pain, knee issues, age concerns, etc. you are the perfect candidate for a trainer.  Be sure your doctor has cleared you to start an exercise program and let me help you work with your limitations and make the most of your body.  I will be happy to keep an open dialogue with your doctor going to monitor your progress in conjunction with your physical limitations.

I have never worked with a trainer before, how in shape do I need to be to get started?

The best time to start working with a trainer is NOW!  If you think you are not in “good enough shape” to get started  you aren’t!  Trainers are responsible for making you stronger and getting you in better shape.  Starting now will only help you get on track to a healthier you!

What should I wear and what should I bring?

Anything that is loose fitting and comfortable to move in is perfect to exercise in.  Be sure to bring a bottle of water for outdoor workouts.  If you are not sure what to wear please let me know in our initial conversation so I can help you.

Can I workout with a partner?

Working out with a buddy can hep motivate you to do things that you would otherwise not want to do on your own.  If you have a friend with a similar fitness background to yourself, similar goals and the same availability as you semi private training can be a great idea.  Please contact us at stacy@stacyyoshioka.com for pricing.

How is progress monitored?

Every client will be assessed in the beginning and progress will be monitored through programming and reassessments.  Assessments include a movement screen, strength test, cardiovascular test and measurements.  All of these items will be reassessed on a regular basis to monitor progress.

How far in advance can I schedule a session?

Most clients have a set schedule and will have a recurring appointment on specific days at specific times.  If you do not have a set schedule, scheduling in advance is a great way to secure a training time slot as all “floating” clients are scheduled on a first come first served basis.  Feel free to schedule as far in advance as your schedule allows and know that all sessions are subject to a 24 hour cancellation policy.

What is your availability?

L.I.V.E. is dedicated to the idea that fitness is valuable to everyone’s state of well being.  Let me know your schedule so I can see if I can accommodate you!

What is your cancellation policy?

We stick to a very strict 24 hour cancellation policy here at L.I.V.E.  Clients who cancel with less than 24 hours notice will be responsible for payment for the missed session.
